Elon Musk has a ‘huge compliment’ for India’s electoral process. The Tesla and Spacex CEO compared the voting processes of the Lok Sabha 2024 elections in India and the United States of America (USA), wrote on X, formerly Twitter, “India counted 640 million votes in 1 day. California is still counting votes 🤦♂️.” Musk’s post ended with a facepalm emoji to highlight his frustration with the US vote counting system.
Musk made the tweet quoting a post that shared the screenshot of a Newsweek article that commended the speed of counting votes in India during the Lok Sabha 2024 elections. The article titled: ‘How India counted 640 million votes in One Day’. The Twitter post read: “Meanwhile in India, where cheating isn’t the primary goal of their elections:”
Elon Musk’s appreciation for India’s Electoral counting process comes just a day after assembly elections results of the two states of Maharashtra and Jharkhand were announced.
California’s vote counting delays …
The most populous US state California with nearly 39 million residents has been grappling with slow vote counting that has been continuing for 15 days and more. More than 15 days after polls closed around the nation and Donald Trump has been declared President-elect of the United States, California is still moving methodically through roughly 800,000 uncounted ballots that are holding up final tallies in several contests.
As of November 23, congressional races remained still to be declared. The long delay is said to be attributed to Californians moving away from in-person voting. The state is one of eight in the country, plus Washington, D.C., that sends vote-by-mail ballots to all registered voters, ensuring a more tedious process to tally election results.
Responding to the criticism about the lagging vote counting Secretary of State Shirley Weber wrote on the social media site X, “It takes time to ensure every ballot is counted, every ballot is accounted for and every voter only voted once,” Weber said. “State law gives California election officials 30 days after election date to complete vote count, auditing and certification.”
