NEW DELHI: The IPL 2025 auction in Jeddah witnessed intense bidding wars, particularly for the six marquee players: Arshdeep Singh, Kagiso Rabada, Shreyas Iyer, Jos Buttler, Mitchell Starc, and Rishabh Pant. Teams spent an astonishing Rs 110 crore combined to secure these high-profile cricketers from Set 1 of the marquee players category.
India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant fetched a record-breaking Rs 27 crore, moving to Lucknow Super Giants after being with Delhi Capitals since 2016.This surpassed the previous auction’s highest bid of Rs 24.75 crore for Australian pacer Mitchell Starc by Kolkata Knight Riders.
Punjab Kings made waves by securing Shreyas Iyer for Rs 26.75 crore, briefly setting the record before Pant’s historic bid.
Punjab also exercised their Right to Match (RTM) option to reclaim Arshdeep Singh for Rs 18 crore after an intense bidding war initiated by Chennai Super Kings.
Gujarat Titans strengthened their squad with South African speedster Kagiso Rabada for Rs 10.75 crore and England’s Jos Buttler for Rs 15.75 crore.
Buttler, a consistent performer for Rajasthan Royals since 2018, was among the most sought-after players.
Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals secured Mitchell Starc for Rs 11.75 crore, significantly less than the Rs 24.75 crore KKR spent on him in the previous auction.
