Over 5.59 lakh aspirants to appear for 4,002 police constable vacancies in J&K | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Over 5.59 lakh candidates are set to appear in exams for 4,002 police constable vacancies scheduled to begin on December 1. The exams will take place on three days in various districts of the Union Territory, officials said on Saturday.
The Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Recruitment Board (SSRB) chairperson, Indu Kanwal Chib, informed that 2,62,863 candidates will sit for exams on December 1 for constable (executive/armed/SDRF) posts at 856 centres across 20 districts, with Jammu district seeing the highest turnout. On December 8, 1,67,609 aspirants will compete for constable (telecommunications) posts, followed by 1,28,663 candidates for constable (photographer) posts on December 22.
Administration officials said that comprehensive measures to ensure transparency and fairness have been put in place including male and female gazetted officers as frisking supervisors at each centre, with videography conducted during the exams.
Chief secretary Dulloo directed deputy commissioners to ensure smooth operations, from deploying sufficient staff to monitoring centres. “Teams of senior officers should oversee the process to prevent malpractices. The entire examination chain, including OMR sheet returns, must be meticulously managed,” he said.
A group of disqualified aspirants staged a protest, demanding age relaxation and the rescheduling of exams. The protesters, who aged out due to recruitment delays, voiced frustration over the administration’s lack of action on their pleas.
The demonstrators called for immediate changes to ensure a level playing field for older aspirants, particularly for both constable and sub-inspector posts.
The SSRB also announced a recruitment drive for 669 sub-inspector posts in the Jammu and Kashmir Police, applications for which will open on December 3 and conclude on January 2, 2025.
