NEW DELHI: External affairs minister S Jaishankar is expected to brief Lok Sabha on Monday about recent developments in India’s ties with China. His statement will follow remarks by the ministry of external affairs (MEA) in Parliament on Friday that as per the agreement reached with China in Depsang and Demchok on Oct 21, which led to disengagement, it has been agreed that patrolling activities and, wherever applicable, grazing will resume as per the long-standing practice before friction started in these areas.
According to Indian officials, the agreement has since been effected and implemented as per modalities and timelines agreed upon. The Oct 21 agreement had led days later to a bilateral meeting, the first in five years, between PM Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping.
“The terms of the disengagement agreements reached prior to Oct 21 continue to hold in relevant areas in eastern Ladakh,” the MEA said last week.
