Last month, Shami marked a remarkable return to competitive cricket after being sidelined with injury woes since the 2023 ICC World Cup.
In his comeback match, he delivered a pivotal performance in Bengal’s narrow 11-run victory over Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy.
Shami’s zeal was on full display in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, where he played a crucial role in Bengal’s commanding six-wicket victory over Meghalaya in a Group A clash on Sunday.
At the Niranjan Shah Stadium, Shami’s disciplined spell of 4-0-16-0 stifled Meghalaya’s batting lineup, limiting them to a modest 127/6.

His sharp deliveries and precise lines underscored his ongoing resurgence as a key player.
Despite losing three batters for ducks during their chase, Bengal’s middle order stabilized the innings. Arien Sangma (37) and Larry Sangma (38) had earlier given Meghalaya some hope with a gritty recovery effort.
However, Bengal’s Abhisek Porel stole the show with a scintillating 61 off just 31 balls, laced with nine boundaries and two towering sixes. Porel, alongside Writtick Chatterjee (25*), ensured Bengal sailed past the target with 49 balls to spare.
