SC’s EVM question for EC on plan to increase voters per polling station | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Election Commission (EC) to explain how the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) system will work if the poll body increases the voter capacity at polling booths.
The court asked the poll body to explain how an EVM, which can take votes of 1,500 people, cater to a polling booth having over 1,500 voters. The court also asked the EC to explain if only 45 votes per hour can be cast in a single machine, how it can accommodate all 1,500 votes if there is cent percent voting during 6 am to 5 pm.
The court was hearing a PIL petition challenging the EC’s decision to increase the maximum number of voters per polling station from 1,200 to 1,500.
