PAN 2.0 Explained:

PAN 2.0 is an initiative to enhance and digitise the PAN and TAN administration system. This upgraded system aims to provide improved services to taxpayers by integrating various platforms and delivering efficient services to PAN/TAN holders.
Key Features:
i. Integration of Platforms: Currently dispersed PAN services across three portals (e-Filing Portal, UTIITSL Portal and Protean e-Gov Portal) will be consolidated into a single unified Income Tax Department portal. This portal will provide comprehensive services including allotment, updation, correction, Online PAN Validation (OPV), Know your AO, AADHAAR-PAN linking, verify your PAN, request for e-PAN, request for re-print of PAN card and other related services.
ii. Comprehensive use of technology for paperless processes: The system implements a completely online paperless process, replacing the current method.
iii. Taxpayer facilitation: PAN-related services such as allotment, updation, and correction are provided without cost, with e-PAN delivered to registered email addresses. Physical PAN cards require a fee of Rs 50 (domestic). International delivery incurs Rs. 15 plus actual India post charges.
Impact on Existing PAN Holders:
Current PAN cardholders need not take any action under the new system. Existing PAN cards remain valid and functional under PAN 2.0. Updates or corrections to PAN details require specific requests from cardholders. New cards will be issued only upon request for modifications or corrections.
