Since it was revealed that the iconic television serial CID would be returning to television screens, fans have been eager to see the original cast of ACP Pradyuman, Daya, and Abhijeet return to their old roles in new stories. However, after the news was disclosed, people expressed sadness that they would miss seeing Inspector Fredericks, played by the late Dinesh Phadnis, on screen.
Today (December 5) is Dinesh Phadnis’s death anniversary. To honour him, the official channel where CID aired posted a video on Instagram. The video is a combination of actors from the show.
The tribute video was uploaded with caption, “Once a part of the CID family, always a part of the CID family. Dinesh Phadnis, AKA Freddy ki yaadein humesha humare saath rahengi. #CID waapis aa raha hai 21st December se, Sat-Sun raat 10 baje.”
In a recent podcast, Aditya Srivastava and Dayanand Shetty remembered their good times with Dinesh Phadnis, “We used to have a big vanity which was divided between Daya, Shivaji and Me. Phadnis and I used to share the same vanity (he is not around us anymore) and the doors would be open. So it would turn into one big room and six people sharing the same food and the same joy together.”
Dinesh Phadnis, who played Inspector Fredericks in CID, passed away on December 5, 2023, at the age of 57. He was hospitalised following a heart attack and died as a result of multi-organ failure.
In terms of the show, CID ended on October 27, 2018, following 20 years of successful airing on Sony TV, making it one of India’s longest-running television shows.

The cast of the popular show included Shivaji Satam as ACP Pradyuman, Aditya Srivastava as Sr. Inspector Abhijeet, and Dayanand Shetty as Sr. Inspector Daya. The serial also starred the late Dinesh Phadnis as Inspector Fredricks, Narendra Gupta as Dr. Salunkhe, Hrishikesh Pandey as Sr. Inspector Sachin, Ansha Sayed as Inspector Purvi, Vivek Mashru as Sub-Inspector Vivek, and Shraddha Musale as Dr. Tarika among the other cast members.
