NEW DELHI: Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar praised Virat Kohli‘s dedication after India’s heavy defeat against Australia in the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test. Kohli was seen practicing in the nets immediately after the match.
In the Adelaide Test, Kohli scored only 7 and 11 runs, continuing his inconsistent form in Test cricket this year.

Before this series, Kohli had only one half-century in six Test matches this year. He did, however, score a century in the second innings of the first Test in Perth, contributing to India’s significant victory.
Gavaskar, while speaking to broadcasters after the Adelaide match, commended Kohli’s commitment and encouraged his teammates to follow his example.

“By going out in the nets today, it shows his dedication. But that is what I would like to see from everybody else,” Gavaskar said.
Gavaskar acknowledged Kohli’s pride in playing for India and his desire to improve. He highlighted Kohli’s immediate return to practice as a testament to his commitment.
“He’s not scored runs. He is very proud of what he achieves and does for India, and because he’s not scored runs in this game, he’s out in the nets. He’s working hard, he’s sweating, and that is what you want to see,” he added.
Gavaskar emphasized the importance of consistent effort in cricket, regardless of the immediate results. He believes that dedication is crucial, even if it doesn’t always lead to immediate success.

“After that, if you get out, no problem, because that’s what sport is all about. You will get runs one day, will get wickets one day, next day you will not. But you’ve got to put in the effort. He is putting in the hard yards, he is putting in the effort, and that’s why I won’t be surprised if he’s back amongst the runs in the next game,” he added.
India hopes Kohli’s hard work will translate into a strong performance in the next Test match. The team aims to recover from the Adelaide defeat and compete effectively against a strong Australian side.
