Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Wednesday said that Syria’s Assad regime was toppled by the US, Israel, and one of Syria’s neighbors that he did not name. He also said that Iran has evidence to back his claim.
The Syrian rebels seized control of Damascus on Sunday bringing end to the Bashar al-Assad regime and forcing him to flee to Moscow. His family has ruling the the middle eastern nation since the early 1970s.
The rebels had be trying to remove Assad for more than a decade, much of which was marked by a devastating civil war.
Meanwhile, in Damascus thousands of people in cars and on foot congregated at the main square waving and chanting “Freedom” from 50 years of the Assad family rule.
People were also seen storming into Al-Rawda Presidential Palace, with some leaving carrying furniture from inside.
Rebel commander Abu Md al-Jolani said there was no room for turning back. “The future is ours,” he said.
The civil war, which started in 2011 against Assad’s rule, turned cities to rubble and killed lakhs.
