US President-elect Donald Trump nudged his “51st state” joke again on the face of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and questioned Canada, asking why America subsidise its northern neighbor Ottawa to the tune of over $100,000,000 a year.
On Wednesday early morning, Trump, who had mocked Trudeau earlier by calling him “Governor Trudeau of State of Canada” and also joking about making the country US’ 51st state, took his Truth Social account and again poked the similar instance on his face.
“No one can answer why we subsidize Canada to the tune of over $100,000,000 a year? Makes no sense! Many Canadians want Canada to become the 51st State. They would save massively on taxes and military protection. I think it is a great idea. 51st State!!!” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
Amid the crisis in the Trudeau-led government in Canada, Trump’s joke over making the country 51st state has become a new way to tease the PM.
‘Governor of the Great State of Canada’
Trudeau had mocked the Canadian Prime Minister with jibes and taunts. In his latest social media post, Trump referred to Trudeau as the “Governor of the Great State of Canada,” revisiting his earlier joke that Canada could become the 51st state of the United States.
“It was a pleasure to have dinner the other night with Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada. I look forward to seeing the Governor again soon so that we may continue our in depth talks on Tariffs and Trade, the results of which will be truly spectacular for all! DJT,” Trump said in a post.
‘If US is subsidising Canada then let them become state’
Earlier in December, Trump suggested that if the US is subsidising its two neighbours Canada and Mexico to the tune of $ 100 billion and $ 300 billion, respectively then these nations should consider becoming part of America.
The 78-year-old Trump has indicated his readiness to implement tariffs on both nations if they fail to control illegal immigration into the US through their borders.
In his first Sunday talk show appearance since winning the November 5 presidential elections, Trump told NBC News, “We’re subsidising Canada to the tune of over $ 100 billion a year. We’re subsidising Mexico for almost $ 300 billion. We shouldn’t be subsidising. Why are we subsidising these countries? If we’re going to subsidise them, let them become a state (of the US).”
Trump’s first joke on Trudeau over making Canada 51st state
Earlier, Trump suggested Trudeau that Canada should become the 51st state of the United States of America, if Trump’s proposed 25 per cent tariff kills the Canadian economy, according to Fox News.
Recently, Trump and Trudeau met at Mar-a-Lago, the President-elect’s Florida resort, where he reportedly suggested to the Canadian PM that if a tariff for failing to address trade and immigration issues would kill the neighbor to the north’s economy, maybe it should become the 51st state, according to Fox News sources.
Trudeau made an unscheduled visit after Trump threatened substantial tariffs on Canadian products. The proposed 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico were linked to their alleged failure to control illegal immigration and drug trafficking into the United States.
Fresh details have surfaced about their encounter, which Trump described as “very productive.”The discussion of tariffs, border security and trade deficits dominated the agenda before the formal dinner service began.
