Ashneer Grover and Anupam Mittal are at it again. The two Sharks are taking potshots at each other — making a public display of their strained relationship. The former Shark Tank India judges Ashneer and Anupam continue to fuel their public feud. Frequent on-screen clashes during the first season have over the years evolved into occasional public jabs in the years since Ashneer’s departure.
Only Gyaan, never money
In a recent panel discussion, Ashneer recounted a humorous anecdote about his early entrepreneurial struggles, taking a subtle dig at Anupam. He described attempting to secure funding from Anupam, who he claimed was reluctant to invest. On being asked about the strangest thing he did to promote his brand at the start of his entrepreneurial journey, Ashneer quipped, “I once went to Anupam Mittal to raise money. He would make me go around in circles and not give me a single penny. He still doesn’t give anybody anything. He only gives ‘gyaan’, not money.”
Ashneer humorously noted that he resorted to unconventional methods, such as waiting for Anupam at a cafe frequented by a Dosa vendor, and even sharing his company’s QR code with the vendor.
This latest exchange adds to a history of veiled criticisms between the two. Anupam, in a recent interview with Mashable India, seemingly alluded to Ashneer’s absence from subsequent seasons with a cryptic comment about the ‘demise’ of some season one sharks. “Oh, it’s from KBC. I know this photo is from Season 1 because several of the sharks aren’t present. “May their soul rest in peace,” Anupam said when shown a picture of the season one roster of ‘Sharks’.
Students should touch Mr Mittal’s feet
Earlier this year, during a campus festival, Ashneer openly criticized Anupam and the other judges, implying that their presence diminished the show’s popularity. He also playfully remarked on Anupam’s age, suggesting that his seniority warranted respect from younger audiences. Ashneer said, “Mr Mittal is getting on in age. Students touch his feet when they meet him, that’s how old he is. And if Mr Mittal has said that the angry element of season one left, it’s a fact. He hasn’t said anything wrong. The rest of them are all lifeless, aren’t they?”
Ashneer’s departure from Shark Tank India following the first season continues to be a point of contention. He has publicly stated that he “ruled” the inaugural season and that the show could no longer afford his participation.
