Andhra woman expects appliances, gets dead body and Rs 1.3 crore extortion letter in parcel instead – Times of India

RAJAHMUNDRY: In a shocking incident in Andhra Pradesh’s West Godavari district, a family in Yandagandi village, Undi mandal, received a gruesome parcel containing a dead body and an extortion letter demanding Rs 1.36 crore.
The parcel was sent to Sagi Tulasi, who has been constructing a house in the village after living separately from her family due to personal disputes. The sender, claiming to represent an organization aiding the poor, had previously sent materials like paint and tiles for her house construction.
On Thursday night, Tulasi, who was visiting her parents’ home, received the parcel. Her younger sister, Chekuri Revati, who is pregnant, and Revati’s husband, Chekuri Sridhar, were present at the time. Expecting electrical appliances, the family opened the wooden box, only to find the decomposing body of a middle-aged man.Inside the box, a letter demanded Rs 1.36 crore, citing an unpaid loan of Rs 3 lakh taken by Tulasi’s missing husband, Sagi Srinivasa Rao, in 2008. The letter claimed the debt had accrued interest over the years.
West Godavari Superintendent of Police (SP) Adnan Nayeem Asmi revealed that the dead body, weighing approximately 85 kilograms and about four days old, belonged to a man aged between 45 and 50. Police are now trying to trace the origin of the parcel.
The absence of CCTV cameras in the village has made tracking the delivery challenging. However, suspicion has fallen on Revati’s husband, Sridhar, who has been missing since Thursday night. His phone has also been switched off, further deepening suspicions.
Tulasi, whose husband has been missing since 2012, had been living with her father but moved out two months ago following disagreements with her younger sister, Revati. The police suspect that these internal family disputes could hold the key to unraveling the mystery.
SP Asmi said, “There appear to be insider links to the case. The family’s silence on their disputes raises questions. Sridhar’s behavior and sudden disappearance are particularly suspicious.”
Multiple police teams have been formed to investigate the case, focusing on identifying the deceased and locating Sridhar.
