Saved after suicide bid, man gets death sentence for killing 3 of his family | India News – Times of India

CHINSURAH (HOOGHLY): Rescued after he tried to kill himself by slashing his wrists, Pramathes Ghosal, a 42-year-old private tutor from Dhaniakhali in Chinsurah subdivision of Bengal’s Hooghly district, was on Monday sentenced to death for brutally killing his elderly father, mother and married sister on Nov 8, 2021.
Chinsurah trial judge Sanjay Kumar Sharma termed the triple murder as a “rarest of rare” crime.
Pramathes, known to be soft-spoken and well-mannered, used to teach local children maths and science. He was the only earning member in the family, which included his father Ashim (68), mother Subhra (60) and married sister Pallavi Chatterjee (38), who stayed with them.
On the day of the incident, students who came for tuition at the usual hour, knocked on the door repeatedly, only to see the horrific sight of a bleeding Pramathes opening it and then slumping down.

Judge gave death penalty looking at brutality of crime

Hooghly police were informed about a bleeding Pramathes by his students. They immediately reached the spot and took him to hospital. At his home, the bodies of his father, mother and sister were found. They were first hit on their heads and then their necks were slashed. After he recovered, Pramathes was arrested for the triple murder.
According to police, Pramathes told them he was pushed to the brink due to his family’s repeated demands for money. He claimed that post-Covid, his earnings took a hit and he never had a steady job. Locals, however, disputed this, saying he earned enough to support his family. The family had been Dhaniakhali residents for 40 years.
Pramathes pleaded innocence during the trial, but considering the brutality of the crime, the judge awarded death penalty. The sentence will now be referred to Calcutta HC for confirmation.
