The district administration and Municipal Corporation in Sambhal have commenced the revival of 68 pilgrimage sites and 19 ancient wells, including the Mrityu Koop

BAREILLY: In their attempt to restore 68 pilgrimage sites and 19 ancient wells, the district administration and Municipal Corporation in Sambhal have started reviving the “Mrityu Koop (death well).”
The excavation of this encroached well started on Thursday. Situated at a distance of nearly 250 metres from the Mughal era Jama mosque, the death well is described in the Sambhal pilgrimage circumambulation. This book was written by Padma Shri awardee Dr Ramakant Shukla in 1985.
The entire matter is related to the Kot Purvi Ward No. 14 South area of the Sambhal Municipal Council. On Thursday morning, the municipal team and BJP councillor Gagan Varshney arrived to excavate the ancient well.
This well is one of the 68 pilgrimage sites and 19 wells, known as Mrityu Koop. It is mentioned in the Sambhal Mahatmya and the Sambhal pilgrimage circumambulation. This book was written by Dr Ramakant Shukla in 1985.
According to the ancient manuscripts, Mrityu Koop can destroy thousands of sins, and 150 yards north of this well is Yamagni Koop (well). Bathing in the well pleases Lord Shiva. Vimal Koop is located to the north, near the old Munsif in the Kot Purvi area.
The pages of Sambhal’s history are being explored. BJP councillor Gagan Varshney said, “The district administration and the Uttar Pradesh govt are restoring the ancient heritage of the Satyuga, including the 68 pilgrimage sites and 19 wells. Several wells in my ward have been identified, and work on them is starting. The restoration of Mrityu Koop began on Thursday morning with cleaning and excavation.”
