AGRA: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has been served with a defamation notice of Rs 1.5 crore by the advocate representing three acquitted men in the ‘2020 Hathras gangrape case‘, following his video posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Dec 14. Gandhi has been given “15 days to respond”.
Senior advocate Munna Singh Pundir, who sent the notice on the three men’s behalf, said, “Several parties, including Congress, interfered for political gain, affecting the investigation’s impartiality”. Gandhi’s post saying the “victim’s family remained confined, while the accused roamed free”, tarnished his clients’ reputation post-acquittal, a punishable offence, Pundir said.
