NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday assured the people of Delhi that no public welfare scheme would be discontinued if BJP was voted to office in the assembly polls. BJP govt would go a step further and weed out corruption in the implementation of the schemes, he said.
“Seeing their defeat in the Delhi election, they (AAP) have started spreading a lie that if BJP comes, this would be stopped, that would be stopped,” Modi said at a ‘Parivartan’ rally in Rohini. “But I want to assure the people of Delhi that no schemes of people’s welfare would be stopped in BJP govt… In schemes where AAPda people have looted people’s money, those schemes would also be run with full honesty by putting honest people,” he said.
This was Modi’s second political speech in Delhi ahead of the polls, where he continued his no-holds-barred attack on AAP, reiterating that the party is AAPda (disaster)for Delhi – a term he coined in his last speech on Friday at Ashok Vihar.
AAP govt currently runs several schemes, including free 200 units of electricity, free 20,000 litres of water, and free bus travel for women in DTC and cluster buses. AAP functionaries have in the past claimed that BJP would end these freebies.
He accused Delhi’s AAP govt of wasting a decade fighting with the Centre and urged its people to give BJP an opportunity to turn the national capital into a city of the future. “Only when this AAPda is gotten rid of in Delhi, the double-engine of development will come in,” Modi said.
Modi said the Centre was developing highways in Delhi, expanding the metro network, starting the Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System, and running big hospitals. “However, the moment you step out of a metro station, you can see potholed roads, overflowing sewers. Some areas are such that even auto and cab drivers refuse to ply due to long traffic jams.”
