Bengaluru reports country’s first case of HMPV infection in 8-month-old baby | Bengaluru News – Times of India

BENGALURU: Karnataka’s first suspected case of HMPV infection was reported in Bengaluru.
While BBMP health officials flagged the case, confirmation from the state health department is awaited.
The virus was detected in an 8-month-old baby admitted to Bengaluru Baptist Hospital, Hebbal, with symptoms of fever and breathlessness since January 2. The baby has no travel history.
BBMP health commissioner Suralkar Vikas Kishore stated, “The hospital identified the infection, but further tests are being conducted to confirm the viral load.”
Medical reports accessed by TOI indicate that Multiplex PCR testing detected microbial RNA/DNA consistent with the virus in the baby.
“There are multiple respiratory viruses circulating in the city, and we are conducting detailed tests to confirm the presence of HMPV. Once confirmed, necessary health protocols, enhanced testing, and control measures will be initiated,” a senior official from the Health and Family Welfare Department said.
