Earlier in the match, Tamil Nadu bowled Rajasthan out for 267 after captain R Sai Kishore won the toss and opted to field. Rajasthan’s innings was anchored by a superb second-wicket partnership of 160 runs between centurion Abhijeet Tomar (111 off 125 balls) and captain Mahipal Lomror (60 off 49 balls).
At 184/1 in the 32nd over, Rajasthan looked set for a commanding total. However, Tamil Nadu’s mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy changed the game with a five-wicket haul. Varun bowled Lomror to end his brisk knock before dismissing Deepak Hooda (7) and Tomar in quick succession, reducing Rajasthan to 209/4 in the 36th over. He completed his haul by taking the wickets of Ajay Singh and Khaleel Ahmed, finishing with figures of 5/52 in nine overs.
Rajasthan’s innings collapsed from a position of strength, losing their last nine wickets for just 83 runs in 16.1 overs. Varun’s stellar performance came at a crucial time, as he eyes a spot in India’s limited-overs squad for the upcoming series against England.
Jagadeesan’s fireworks and Varun’s brilliance underline Tamil Nadu’s dominant display in the knockout stages of the tournament.
