2 TMC workers injured in shootout in West Bengal’s Malda | Kolkata News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: A Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and a party worker were shot at in West Bengal’s Malda district on Tuesday, according to police.
The shooting occurred less than two weeks after the murder of a TMC councillor in the same district.
The incident took place in the Kaliaganj area during a program organized for the inauguration of a road. Both the TMC leader and the worker were critically injured and are receiving treatment at a hospital, a senior officer reported.
“We are investigating the shoot-out and speaking to witnesses and party members who were present at the scene,” a senior police officer told news agency PTI.
One of the injured has been identified as Bakul Sheikh, the local TMC committee president.
The shooting follows the January 2 murder of TMC councillor Dulal Sarkar in Malda, for which seven individuals have been arrested.
