NEW DELHI: Supreme Court on Wednesday decided to take opinion of expert doctors from AIIMS Delhi on medical condition of Jagjit Singh Dallewal who has been on fast-unto-death for the last 50 days and directed chief secretary of Punjab to hand over all reports of all his medical examination done since he started fasting.
A bench of Justices Surya Kant and N K Singh directed the chief secretary to hand over the reports to the Registrar (Judicial) of the Supreme Court who then will forward them to the AIIMS director to get opinion from expert doctors on his medical condition on the basis of the reports.
As senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Punjab govt, told the court that Dallewal’s health parameter was improving, the bench expressed surprise on how the parameter was improving when a person was on fast for the last 49 days. Sibal then said that his health parameters were stable. He told the court that there is now a medical facility just 10 metres near the protest site.
The court thereafter directed the Punjab govt to place all medical reports of Dallewal based on his examination done from Dec 19 onwards and also comparative charts of records of his vital health parameter.
The court said that it would pass a comprehensive order after getting a report from an expert panel which was appointed by it and holding talks with protesting farmers.
The state told the bench that there was progress in talks, indicating that the stalemate between the Punjab govt and the protesting farmers may end. The court posted the hearing to Jan 29.
