NEET UG 2025 in offline mode: The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced on Thursday that the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2025 will be conducted under new rules and a revised schedule. This follows controversies surrounding allegations of malpractice in the 2024 examination.
NEET-UG 2025 will be held in a pen-and-paper format (OMR-based), conducted on a single day in a single shift.

The NTA confirmed this through an official notification, putting an end to speculation about shifting the exam to an online mode or conducting it in multiple phases.
The notification states, “As decided by the National Medical Commission, it is informed that the NEET (UG) 2025 shall be conducted in Pen and Paper mode (OMR-based) in a Single day and Single Shift.”
NEET UG 2025 in offline mode: Expert recommended hybrid-mode
Interestingly, this decision contradicts recommendations made by the NTA Expert Committee, led by former ISRO chief K. Radhakrishnan, which proposed transitioning to a computer-based mode and conducting the exam in multiple phases. While Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had hinted at these changes, they will not be implemented for NEET 2025.
As of now, the exact date for NEET 2025 has not been announced. However, the NTA previously indicated that the registration process would begin in early 2025, likely in February or the first week of March.
NEET UG now mandatory for BSc nursing courses at Armed Forces medical hospitals
Starting with the 2025-26 academic year, candidates applying for admission to BSc Nursing programs at Armed Forces medical hospitals will also need to qualify for NEET UG. This decision reinforces the significance of the exam for aspirants.
The confirmation of maintaining the traditional exam format has offered relief to students, who will not need to adapt to a new system or prepare for online mock tests. However, concerns remain about the potential for paper leaks and other malpractices, issues that plagued last year’s exam.
