Earlier last month, Rupali Ganguly through her lawyer, Sana Raees Khan, filed a defamation suit against her stepdaughter, Esha Verma in the Bombay High Court. According to Sana, the legal action was initiated to safeguard the actress’s integrity and reputation from baseless and malicious allegations. In a recent development, the Bombay High Court granted Rupali ad-interim relief, restraining Esha from posting defamatory content against the actress.

Sana explains, “This relief ensures that false and damaging content is restrained across all platforms, reinforcing that the law protects individuals from targeted attacks on their reputation.”
The court order specified: Pending the hearing and final disposal of the suit, defendant No. 1 (Esha), her agents, servants, representatives, followers, or any person acting on her behalf are restrained by order of prohibitory injunction from publishing, posting, sharing, circulating, or otherwise disseminating any defamatory, false, slanderous, or libellous statements, posts, videos, tweets, stories, or content against the Applicant through any medium, including but not limited to social media platforms, digital and print media, or other public forums, either directly or indirectly.
The order also prohibits Esha from using or enabling third parties or intermediaries, including John Doe platforms, to perpetuate the defamatory and malicious campaign against Rupali.
For those unfamiliar with the case, Esha accused Rupali of having an affair with her father, Ashish K Verma, during his marriage to her mother, Sapna. She further alleged that Rupali was responsible for her parents’ separation, took her mother’s jewellery, and threatened her. These allegations were shared across interviews and social media, prompting Rupali to file a Rs 50 crore defamation notice against Esha on November 11.
In the notice, Rupali claimed that Esha’s actions had “tarnished her reputation, undermined her dignity, and adversely affected her career, resulting in significant financial losses”. The actress also demanded a public apology from Esha for involving her young son in the controversy. She warned that failure to apologise would lead to further legal action. Following the notice, Esha removed all posts related to Rupali from her social media and made her Instagram account private. The case is now scheduled for its next hearing on February 15.
