LUCKNOW: Geeta (24) and her six-year-old daughter Deepika were murdered in Mallihabad’s Isapur village by the former’s paramour, 25-year-old Vikas Jaiswal. Police arrested Jaiswal on Saturday. He admitted to the crime, revealing that he was enraged after Geeta started ignoring him despite his financial and emotional investments in their relationship. Jaiswal is also a distant relative of Geeta.

Geeta’s husband, Prakash Kanaujia, works in Mumbai, leaving Geeta to care for their two children, Deepika and four-year-old Dipanshu, said the police. On January 15, Geeta and Deepika were alone at home while Dipanshu was staying with a relative. The next day, Geeta’s family tried to contact her but received no response. Concerned, they arrived at her house and used a ladder to enter, discovering Geeta and Deepika’s blood-soaked bodies with severe injuries and slit throats.
Call records lead to the accused
DCP West Zone, Vishwajeet Srivastava, who supervised the case, stated that police recovered two mobile phones from the crime scene. “While one phone was switched off, the other was on silent. Analysis of the call logs revealed that Jaiswal made over 1,600 calls to Geeta in the last 11 months. Suspicion grew when Geeta’s son Dipanshu confirmed Jaiswal’s frequent visits to their home,” he said.
Jaiswal confessed during interrogation that his relationship with Geeta began during the Covid-19 lockdown while her husband was away. Over time, he spent a significant portion of his earnings on her, even returning from Kuwait at her insistence.
However, Geeta recently started ignoring him, which deeply angered Jaiswal. On the night of January 15, Jaiswal climbed a pole to enter Geeta’s house. He woke her by creating noise and confronted her about avoiding him. When Geeta asked him to leave, he lost his temper and attacked her with a stick. When her daughter woke up, he assaulted her too. Finally, he used a kitchen knife to slit their throats.
After the murders, Jaiswal washed the blood off his hands, stole jewellery he previously gifted Geeta to show the crime scene as an incident of robbery, and fled on a motorcycle.
The next day, he resumed his routine and even visited the crime scene, pretending to console the family and misdirect the investigation by suggesting other suspects, the police said. However, his actions, coupled with call records, led to his arrest. Jaiswal’s confession guided the police to recover the murder weapons, stolen jewellery, his motorcycle, and Rs 760 in cash.
DCP West Zone, Srivastava, added that Vikas showed the gifts with which he pampered Geeta. They were all expensive gifts, but over the last 15 days, she was ignoring him, leading him to commit the crime.
