NEW DELHI: Contrasting Rahul Gandhi‘s criticism of India’s economy with the Narendra Modi govt’s achievements, BJP on Tuesday sought to highlight the success of the production linked incentive (PLI) scheme in attracting investments and fostering job creation.
In a post on X, BJP IT department head Amit Malviya cited India’s emergence as a global mobile manufacturing hub, with significant production statistics for the financial year 2023-24, and mentioned the growth in the telecom equipment sector under the PLI scheme. He also referred to a Nabard report indicating growth in rural household incomes outpacing inflation, and compared the inflation rates and real wage growth between the UPA and the NDA regimes.
BJP’s reaction came after Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on microblogging site X claimed that the manufacturing sector’s share in the economy has fallen to its lowest level in 60 years due to which people are struggling to find employment.
“It is quite ironic that LoP Rahul Gandhi has once again chosen to paint a bleak picture of India’s economy, conveniently overlooking his own party’s troubled history,” Malviya added.
Malviya claimed Modi govt’s initiatives, such as PLI scheme, have attracted investments exceeding Rs 1 lakh crore, leading to production & sales worth Rs 8.6 lakh crore, and generating over 6.8 lakh jobs as of Nov 2023.
