NEW DELHI: Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav found himself at the centre of a social media storm after a cheeky comment about the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) set tongues wagging.
Kuldeep’s remark, aimed at RCB’s elusive quest for their maiden IPL trophy, sent fans into a frenzy and showcased the cricketer’s sense of humour.
During a podcast, a playful comment from a fan identified as “RCB management” suggested that the franchise needed Kuldeep as a goalkeeper—an allusion to his love for football.
Unfazed, Kuldeep delivered a zinger in Hindi: “Tumhe goalkeeper ki nahi, trophy ki jarurat hai bhai” (You don’t need a goalkeeper; you need a trophy).
The retort took a jab at RCB’s trophy-less IPL history, delighting neutral fans while triggering RCB loyalists.
The aftermath on social media saw light-hearted banter among fans. To cool tempers, Kuldeep posted on X (formerly Twitter): “Chill yaar, RCB fans… Trophy apki hai. Par mein goalkeeper nahi hu”(Relax, RCB fans. The trophy is yours, but I’m not a goalkeeper).
Kuldeep Yadav, who has been pivotal for India in recent ICC tournaments, remains a key figure as the team eyes the Champions Trophy.
Currently representing Delhi Capitals in the IPL, Kuldeep has consistently displayed his match-winning abilities.
RCB, despite having a star-studded lineup featuring Virat Kohli so far, have struggled to clinch the coveted IPL title, making Kuldeep’s remark sting for their passionate supporters.
Meanwhile, Kuldeep will aim to lead Delhi Capitals to their maiden title.
