HYDERABAD: Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday said it is an insult to the four crore people of Telangana that the central govt did not consider the names of eminent personalities from Telangana, sent by the state govt to the centre, for Padma awards.
The chief minister expressed unhappiness over the discrimination and decided to write a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the injustice done to Telangana in Padma awards. This decision was taken after CM Revanth held a meeting with the ministers after the announcement of Padma awards.
Only two people from Telangana got Padma awards. Padma Vibushan for D Nageshwar Reddy i9n the field of medicine and Padma Shri for Manda Krishna Madiga in public affairs.
The CM expressed his deep dissatisfaction that the Central government did not consider the names of eminent personalities like Balladeer Gaddar (proposed for Padma Vibhushan posthumously), eminent educationist popularly known as IIT Guru Chukka Ramaiah (for Padma Bhushan), poet and lyricist Andesri who penned Telangana state’s song Jaya jaya he Telangana (for Padma Bhushan), poet Gorati Venkanna (for Padma Shri), and poet and historian Jayadheer Tirumala Rao (for Padma Shri) proposed by the state government, which is an insult to the four crore people of Telangana.
The CM said not recognizing Gaddar, Chukka Ramaiah, Andesri and Gorati Venkanna, who have rendered distinguished services to the Telangana society in various fields, is a violation of the self-respect of the people of Telangana. CM Revanth Reddy expressed deep dissatisfaction over the fact that the Central Government, which announced awards to 139 people, did not announce at least five Padma awards for Telangana.
