NEW DELHI: Rohit Sharma, who led India to their second ICC T20 World Cup title, has been named the skipper of the ICC Men’s T20I Team of the Year 2024. The team, which reflects India’s dominance in the format, also features Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya among its ranks.
Sharma had an unforgettable year, excelling as both a leader and a batter. The seasoned opener amassed 378 runs in 11 matches at an average of 42.00 and a strike rate of over 160. His campaign included three half-centuries, highlighted by a sensational 92 against Australia in the Super Eight stage of the World Cup.

Sharma’s tactical acumen and ability to thrive under pressure were key to India’s title-winning run, cementing his legacy as one of the country’s finest T20I captains.

Arshdeep Singh emerged as one of the standout performers for India, finishing as the team’s leading wicket-taker in 2024. The left-arm pacer claimed 36 wickets in 18 matches at an average of 13.50. Known for his ability to swing the ball in the powerplay and deliver pinpoint yorkers in the death overs, Arshdeep’s performance against the USA in the T20 World Cup, where he took 4/9, was among the highlights of the year.
All-rounder Hardik Pandya further solidified his status as one of the world’s premier T20 players. He scored 352 runs and picked up 16 wickets in 17 matches, playing crucial roles in pivotal moments. Pandya’s heroics in the T20 World Cup final, where he defended 16 runs in the last over against South Africa and delivered a match-winning spell of 3/20, epitomised his ability to thrive under pressure.
Jasprit Bumrah, returning to T20 cricket after a hiatus, made an immediate impact with his exceptional bowling performances. The right-arm pacer took 15 wickets in eight matches at an average of 8.26, relying on his lethal yorkers and precise death bowling to stifle opponents. His remarkable performances throughout the year also earned him a nomination for the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy as ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year.
The ICC Men’s T20I Team of the Year also includes top performers from other nations. Australia’s Travis Head, England’s Phil Salt, Pakistan’s Babar Azam, West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran, Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza, Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan, and Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga complete the line-up.
