KOLKATA: Trinamool on Saturday urged the parents of the RG Kar rape-murder victim not to become “spokespersons” of political “conspirators”. The party also urged the parents not to become puppets of “restless political souls”.
TMC, which had till now refrained from speaking out against the parents, chose to draw a line on Saturday when the victim’s parents launched a scathing attack on CM Mamata Banerjee after the Sealdah session’s court’s verdict, and even demanded her resignation. TMC also sought a probe on who were instigating the parents to speak out against the CM.
“At the onset, we make it very clear that we are extremely empathetic and sensitive to their loss. But we are noticing with increasing concern how the parents are continuously shifting their stance, even attacking CM Banerjee. We have never seen pain in their heart, tears in their eyes, but have always seen them making unemotional political statements to the media, every day. They are clearly acting as spokespersons for political conspirators opposed to Trinamool,” party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said.
“We have never questioned them, but if we say it is for them the RG Kar trial took long? From Matigara to Gurap, all rape-murder incidents probed by state police after RG Kar have resulted in death sentences. They were the ones who asked for CBI. They are the ones attacking CBI now. They have been part of the trial. Now that the trial is over, they are questioning the verdict. They should be conscious of what they are saying,” Ghosh said.
