NEW DELHI: Spinner Jomel Warrican delivered a match-winning performance, taking five wickets as the West Indies secured their first Test victory in Pakistan in nearly 35 years on Monday.
The visitors triumphed in the second Test in Multan by 120 runs on day three, leveling the series 1-1.
Pakistan had claimed the opening Test, also in Multan, with a 127-run victory.
Warrican finished with nine wickets in the match and an impressive 19 in the series, using spin to great effect on pitches tailored to favor the hosts.
The West Indies’ last Test win in Pakistan came in Faisalabad in November 1990, with subsequent tours in 1997 and 2006 yielding no victories.
Chasing 254 and resuming at 76-4, Pakistan’s hopes were pinned on Saud Shakeel, but Kevin Sinclair dismissed the left-hander for 13, caught in the slips, further dimming the hosts’ chances.
Babar Azam top-scored for Pakistan with 31, while Mohammad Rizwan contributed 25, but their efforts fell short against the visitors’ relentless bowling attack.
