The world of entertainment has lost yet another star. One of the beloved veteran South Korean actresses and voice artists Jang Mi Ja has passed away. She breathed her last at the age of 84, as confirmed by the Korean Broadcast Performers’ Union on Monday. The union mentioned that she succumbed to a long-term illness earlier on January 27.
Jang is survived by her husband, Park Woong (who is also a renowned voice artist and actor), and their two sons, who are receiving visitors at the funeral home. Further, more details about her health condition remain undisclosed.
According to a report by Koreaboo, Jang Mi Ja’s memorial service will be held at the Seoul National University Hospital. Further, her funeral has been scheduled for Wednesday, January 29, at the Seoul City Cemetery. Reports suggest that all the loved ones, industry co-stars,
friends and more will be attending the memorial to pay their respects.

Jang Mi Ja, an 84-year-old actress, began her career in theater around 1959 and participated in various stage performances. In 1963, she joined DBS Dong-A Broadcasting as one of its first voice artists and later became part of KBS’s sixth generation. Over the years, she successfully transitioned into acting, appearing in shows such as ‘Toji,’ ‘The Second Republic,’ ‘The Sons of Sol Pharmacy House,’ ‘Believe in Love,’ ‘The Light in Your Eyes,’ and ‘King the Land.’ One of her most memorable roles was as a mother-in-law in ‘Clinic for Married Couples: Love and War,’ which earned her the affectionate title of “the nation’s mother-in-law.”
Her background in theater kept her closely tied to the stage, where she starred in plays such as ‘The Bird That Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,’ ‘Drying Peppers,’ ‘Golden Pond,’ and ‘Human Time.’ Her husband, actor Park Woong, co-starred with her in productions like ‘Living in Golden Pond’ and ‘Dancing Silver Portrait.’
