NEW DELHI: Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday announced that 50,000 Atal Tinkering Labs will be established over the next five years to encourage scientific thinking among students.
While presenting the 14th consecutive budget under the Narendra Modi government, she also said that five national centers for skilling will be set up with global expertise.
The government will introduce the Bharatiya Bhasha Pushtak scheme to provide digital versions of Indian language books for schools and higher education.
She further stated that additional infrastructure will be developed in five IITs.
Measures will also be taken to improve nutritional support in the country.
The Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) is a government initiative under NITI Aayog to promote innovation and entrepreneurship across the country.
The mission was launched following the finance minister’s announcement in the 2015 Budget speech.
Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL) are workspaces where students can develop ideas through hands-on learning and innovation.
AIM aims to build an ecosystem for innovation and entrepreneurship at schools, universities, research institutions, MSMEs, and industries.
