NEW DELHI: Mumbai’s local train services on the Central Railway’s main line were disrupted on Tuesday morning due to a signalling system glitch near the city, officials said. The issue occurred around 4.55am on the south-bound slow track between Diva and Mumbra stations in Thane district, causing delays of 15-20 minutes.
Central Railway’s chief public relations officer, Swapnil Nila, stated that the signalling issue was resolved by 6am, over an hour after it surfaced.
The disruption led to overcrowding on trains and platforms, causing inconvenience to passengers, a commuter activist reported.
The CR’s main line extends from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in south Mumbai to Kasara in Thane, and to Khopoli and Karjat in Raigad district.
The Central Railway operates nearly 1,800 local train services daily, carrying over 35 lakh commuters across its main, harbour, trans-harbour, and Belapur-Uran corridors.
