Mahindra Group chairman Anand Mahindra recently shared his amazement over a hidden gem in India, calling it a “must-see destination.” The revelation came after Mahindra learned about the Rampur Raza Library in Uttar Pradesh, a magnificent structure he had no prior knowledge of.
Mahindra’s astonishment was sparked by a post from historian Sam Dalrymple, who described the library as “the prettiest library in India” and praised its well-preserved collection of around 30,000 rare manuscripts in various languages, including Pashto, Sanskrit, Hindi, Urdu, and Tamil.The library, founded in 1774 by Nawab Faizullah Khan, is a treasure trove of Indo-Islamic learning and arts.

The Rampur Raza Library, housed in the European Mughal architectural marvel Hamid Manzil, boasts an impressive collection of 17,000 manuscripts in Arabic, Persian, Pashto, Sanskrit, Urdu, Hindi, and Turkish, along with rare paintings and palm-leaf manuscripts. It also holds around 60,000 printed books in both Indian and foreign languages.
