Most of the deleted Maharashtra voters are SC/STs and minorities: Rahul Gandhi | India News – The Times of India

NEW DELHI: Insisting that Election Commission hand over to them detailed list of voters of the 2024 Lok Sabha and assembly elections in Maharashtra, INDIA bloc partners Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP) Friday alleged irregularities in the lists, claiming 39 lakh voters were added in just five months between the two polls, whereas 32 lakh had been added in the state between ’19 and ’24.
Citing an assembly constituency, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi claimed while the alliance votes remained intact, the new votes went to BJP. Maharashtra’s adult population is 9.54 crore, as per govt data, but the number of voters is 9.7 crore, he said. “We want to understand who these new voters are.”
Sanjay Raut of Shiv Sena (UBT) mocked these 39 lakh voters are “floating” who will go to Bihar, and then to UP, while some of them were also seen in Delhi polls – implying they were fake. “If EC is alive, then these questions should be answered. But EC won’t reply because it is also a slave of BJP govt,” Rahul Gandhi said.
As NCP (SP)’s Supriya Sule said voters’ names were added till two days before polls, Rahul remarked, “What has happened is that this list is a dynamic list, and this list is constantly changing and anyone can change it. The nice way to say it is that EC has lost control of the list. The bad way to say it is EC has manipulated the list.” He added, “We are now heading towards complete destruction of the Constitution. But we are in the business of protecting the Constitution.”
Sule said NCP and Shiv Sena were split while their symbols too were taken away and then confusion created about the symbols during polls. “It is a multi-faceted attack. EVMs and voters’ lists are part of it,” she remarked.
Rahul said besides additions, the other serious issue is the deletion of voters and those who were moved from one booth to another, and most of them were SC/ST and minorities.
Sule said a winning candidate of NCP (SP) has sought re-election because he did not get the number of votes that he should have.
