In a dramatic turn of events that has reshaped Delhi’s political scenario, the BJP has accomplished what Arvind Kejriwal previously deemed impossible – securing victory against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the national capital.
“Modi ji iss janam mein aap hume nahi hara sakte” (Modi ji, you cannot defeat us in this lifetime) were Kejriwal’s words at a rally last year. This video clip is going viral on social media on the day his party faced a crushing defeat in the Delhi assembly elections.
The BJP’s sweeping victory, securing 48 seats in the 70-member assembly, marks a historic return to power after a 27-year hiatus in Delhi.

The results have not just ended AAP’s dreams of a hat-trick but have also delivered a personal blow to Kejriwal, who lost his three-time bastion- New Delhi constituency.
The irony of Kejriwal’s earlier boast hasn’t been lost on political observers and social media users, with the video of his declaration going viral as results poured in.
While celebrations have erupted at the BJP office, a pall of gloom hangs over the AAP headquarters. The defeat is particularly bitter for AAP veterans, with former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia conceding defeat in Jangpura.
The Congress party, which once dominated Delhi politics under Sheila Dikshit’s 15-year reign, has been reduced to a mere spectator, failing to secure any seats.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that the capital’s residents opted for hange, expressing their dissatisfaction with the current situation.
Speaking to reporters, Priyanka, who represents Wayanad in Parliament, noted that during pre-election party gatherings, it was evident that Delhi’s populace desired a shift in governance.
“They were fed up with the way things were and they wanted change. I suppose they voted for change. My congratulations to all those who have won,” she said.
“For the rest of us, it just means we have to work harder, stay there, be on the ground and be responsive to the people’s issues,” she added.
With the BJP on its way to securing more than 45 seats in the 70-member assembly, surpassing the required majority of 36, party officials remained silent regarding their choice for chief minister.
