Will work as constructive opposition: AAP; BJP thanks PM – The Times of India

NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal, while accepting the party’s defeat in the Assembly elections on Saturday, mentioned that its govt had brought change in Delhi in health, education and other utilities and would continue to work as a constructive opposition.
“My party did a lot of work in the last 10 years to make the life of Delhiites easier, especially in health, education and water and electricity supply,” he said.

Kejriwal, while congratulating BJP on its win, hoped that its govt would fulfil its electoral promises.
Atishi, the outgoing chief minister, who won Kalkaji in a nail-biting contest, lauded AAP workers for their resilience against, what she called, BJP’s “oppressive” tactics. She stressed on AAP’s commitment to opposing BJP’s “dictatorial” policies.
AAP MLA and Okhla assembly constituency winner Amanatullah Khan, however, alleged that the Election Commission and govt apparatus was prejudiced against his party. “The entire system was engaged in making BJP win,” he said. The Election Commission was partial in its conduct, he alleged.
BJP, in its official reaction, said that the Prime Minister’s guarantee had delivered the win. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said: “The people of Delhi have expressed their faith in PM Modi‘s guarantee. AAP should introspect as govts don’t work on corruption and lies.”
BJP winner Shikha Roy, who beat AAP’s Saurabh Bharadwaj in Greater Kailash, credited her success to the party leadership and its hard-working campaigners. “I thank the party workers who worked hard to put an end to the problems of Delhi and I thank the people who chose to hand over the govt of Delhi to PM Modi. The govt’s work will be visible in the next few months, though it will take some time to fix backlogs left by the previous govt,” she said.
BJP leaders Manoj Tiwari and Kausar Jahan also promised visible changes in the coming months. “Words fall short when we try to express our happiness,” Tiwari said. “We express our gratitude to the people of Delhi…. The people of Delhi have expressed their faith in PM Modi’s guarantee… We will work for the development of Delhi. He added that “AAP is finished…. AAP has no future in Delhi, Punjab and the country.”
Jahan said the victory was an endorsement of “PM Modi’s guarantee” and “Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas”. She said that the people had “attacked Arvind Kejriwal’s corruption. Everyone, including women and the youth, expressed confidence in BJP.”
Like the others, BJP MP from South Delhi Ramvir Singh Bidhuri too sang the PM’s praise and said that the people had punished Kejriwal for his corruption, lies, fraud, unfulfilled promises and arrogance. Kejriwal should now resign from the post of convener of AAP, he said.
New Delhi BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj said Kejriwal’s team had been found guilty in the people’s court.
Sandeep Dikshit, the Congress candidate who had contested against Kejriwal in the New Delhi seat, expressed gratitude towards his supporters, underscoring the need for reflective introspection in the party.
