Elon Musk’s history of changing his X account name
In April 2023, he briefly adopted the alias “Harry Bolz,” a play on the slang term “hairy balls.” This was widely interpreted as a joke and a nod to internet humor. This move also came amid major changes at the social media platform following his 2022 takeover. Musk later confirmed the name change was a joke before reverting to his usual display name.
In December 2024, he again changed his name to “Kekius Maximus,” and updated his profile picture to Pepe the Frog dressed as a Roman gladiator. This further demonstrated his awareness of internet subcultures.
The name references “kek,” a term from online gaming and meme culture, and “Maximus,” evoking Roman authority.
These name changes reflect Musk’s playful online persona and his tendency to use X for both amusement and engagement with his followers.
