Last year saw Rs 25,330 crore narco seizures in India, up 55% | India News – The Times of India

NEW DELHI: Law enforcement agencies across the country seized narcotics worth around Rs 25,330 crore in 2024. This represents a significant increase of over 55% compared to the Rs 16,100 crore seized in 2023, analysis of official data shows.
The success is attributed to the ‘bottom to top’ and ‘top to bottom’ approach adopted by PM Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Better coordination between the finance department, police, and agencies across states has contributed to this achievement, officials said on Monday. Notable seizures in 2024 include 80 quintals of methamphetamine, 1,426 kg of cocaine, and 3,391 kg of mephedrone. The number of pharmaceutical drugs misused as psychotropic substances increased significantly. Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) conducted several major operations in collaboration with various agencies in 2024.
In Feb 2024, the sleuths busted an international drug trafficking network with the arrest of three people and seizure of 50 kg of pseudoephedrine (a chemical used to manufacture narcotics). The joint team of NCB and Delhi Police acted on information provided by Australian and New Zealand authorities to bust the network.
