NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha was adjourned as soon as it resumed on Thursday as Congress disrupted proceedings demanding a discussion on a project awarded to Adani group by relaxing security protocols, a charge the party had also raised a day before.
Congress had moved an adjournment motion urging the Speaker to discuss matters related to relaxation of national security protocols for the Khavda renewable energy project. Speaker Om Birla, however, refused to allow the motion and asked the members to wait for zero hour. But an unrelenting opposition continued to disrupt question hour, leading to adjournment of the House till 2 pm.
Congress’ Manickam Tagore, who moved the motion, said this project was situated just 1 km from the Indo-Pak border in the Rann of Kutch. “It puts our national security at grave risk,” he said, alleging that the Centre and Gujarat govt bypassed senior military officers and steamrolled their objections. He further said an exception was created for this project, and others along Nepal, China, Myanmar and Bangladesh borders.
