Goa court holds man guilty for 2017 rape-murder of Irish-British woman – The Times of India


A Goa court on Friday found a 31-year-old man guilty of raping and murdering Irish-British citizen Danielle McLaughin in 2017.
The District and Sessions Court at Margao, presided by Judge Kshama Joshi, convicted Vikat Bhagat, who was the sole accused in the case.
Vikram Varma, the legal representative for the victim’s mother Andrea Brannigan, confirmed the verdict, according to news agency PTI. The court is scheduled to announce the punishment on February 17. According to Varma, the prosecution has requested the court to impose the “maximum sentence” on the convict.
The case pertains to 28-year-old McLaughlin, who was was subjected to sexual assault and murder in Canacona city of Goa, in March 2017. Her unclothed body was discovered in a forested region, lying in a pool of blood.
