‘Silence at home, personal matter abroad’: Rahul Gandhi targets PM Modi over Gautam Adani issue – The Times of India

NEW DELHI: Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for dismissing the question on Gautam Adani indictment issue in the US. He said that the PM was “shielding” his “friend” by calling it a “personal matter”.
“Silence on questions at home, ‘personal matter’ abroad! Even in the US, Modi Ji shielded Adani Ji from corruption allegations!” the Congress leader said in a post on X.
“For Modi Ji, filling a friend’s pockets is ‘nation-building,’ while bribery and the looting of national assets conveniently become a ‘personal matter,’” he added.

PM Modi, who was on a visit to the US, dismissed the question on whether he held discussions on Gautam Adani indictment issue with President Donald Trump.
“India is a democracy and our culture is ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, we consider the whole world as one family. I believe every Indian is mine. Two prominent leaders of two countries never discuss such individual issues,” he said.
US authorities, in November last year, filed charges against Adani, his nephew Sagar Adani, and several executives from the Adani Group, alleging their involvement in a $250 million bribery scheme linked to solar power project contracts in India. The US Department of Justice (DoJ) accused the group of securities and wire fraud, claiming they misled US investors about their anti-corruption commitments while engaging in bribery. The Adani Group denied allegations calling it “baseless.”
The opposition has since, intensified its attack on the BJP government with the issue being raised in the Parliament winter session last year, marked by multiple protests and walkouts by the INDIA bloc.
