In response to the contentious run-out decisions that influenced her side’s narrow defeat to Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians coach Charlotte Edwards expressed difficulty in accepting such crucial determinations that impact match results. During Saturday’s WPL match, three disputed run-out decisions generated discussions regarding LED stump rule interpretations.
Third official Gayathri Venugopalan declared three DC players — Radha Yadav, Arundhati Reddy and Shikha Pandey — not out, apparently overlooking the initial LED stump illumination upon ball contact with the wickets.

“You’ve got to stay pretty calm. It is really hard when there’re many decisions to go to the third umpire. The result of the game is looking at the big screen,” Edwards, the former England captain with two World Cup victories, stated following MI’s close loss.
“It’s pretty hard. I’ve played the game and been around the game to know…it’s the game and we just have to move on. We look forward to playing here on Tuesday,” she continued.
During commentary, former India captain Mithali Raj noted that verdicts regarding Arundhati and Radha Yadav should have favoured MI.

WPL 2025 regulations, a wicket is deemed broken at the initial frame when LED stumps illuminate, yet in these instances, the umpire’s decisions were based on subsequent frames showing completely dislodged bails.
The initial dispute arose in the 18th over regarding Pandey’s bat position when the LEDs activated. Similar controversies followed with Radha in the 19th over and Arundhati on the final delivery, with both batters being declared safe despite questionable positioning when the stumps first lit up.
These rulings benefited DC, as Radha (nine not out) and Arundhati (two not out) secured a dramatic victory. MI captain Harmanpreet Kaur displayed frustration but refrained from formal complaints.
Former RCB cricket director Mike Hesson voiced his concerns on X, questioning the umpire’s interpretation of the zinger bails system.
Previously, Nat Sciver-Brunt scored an unbeaten 80, partnering effectively with Harmanpreet (42), before DC regained control to limit the former champions to 164.
Edwards acknowledged their batting shortfall in the latter stages. “It was actually hard when a big partnership like that of Harman (Harmanpreet Kaur) and Nat (sciver-brunt) was broken. They were making it look easy, weren’t they? Potentially that didn’t help. I think the runout of (Amelia) Kerr was a massive point in this game.
“We should have gotten to 180+, which we didn’t, and that hurt us in the end. Shafali (Verma) played brilliantly. But that’s T20 cricket,” she remarked.
“There will be a lot of stuff I’d want the team to continue to do, just a few areas where we need to sharpen up, which we’ll do over the next couple of days. Looking forward to our game against Gujarat,” added the coach who led them to victory in the first WPL in 2023.
Shikha, who dismissed openers Hayley Matthews and Yastika Bhatia, praised the collective effort: “We are still not at full strength and have some superstars who couldn’t play today. And to get a team like MI which is paying on full strength all out was amazing.”
