NEW DELHI: Newly elected Delhi minister Pankaj Kumar Singh on Friday said that people were fooled in the name of Mohalla clinic and the BJP govt will launch a probe against all the wrong doings during the previous AAP government.
“The way people were being fooled in the name of Mohalla clinic, we discussed that in the meeting… Those Mohalla clinics, which are on the land of the Delhi govt – will convert them to make them better and include Ayurvedic facilities. We will take action against all the wrongs during the previous govt,” Singh said.
Additionally, officials on Friday announced a comprehensive healthcare reform strategy, which includes digital health services integration, rebranding of Mohalla clinics to ‘Aarogya Mandirs‘, recruitment for vacant medical leadership positions and completion of ongoing hospital construction projects.
An official further said that after rebranding, Mohalla Clinics will have more facilities and improved administration.
“The existing model is not very effective, so we will restructure it for better efficiency. The goal is not to waste resources but to create well-functioning healthcare centres,” he said to news agency PTI.
Officials further said that numerous government hospitals are facing shortages of medical superintendents (MS) and medical directors (MD). The situation has led to individual officials overseeing multiple hospitals simultaneously , affecting operational efficiency.
The authorities will also assess the Health Information Management System (HIMS) implementation and review the Clinical Establishments Act enforcement, according to a health official’s statement to PTI.
“For the past year, we have been highlighting gaps in the health sector. Now that all departments have been directed to prepare a blueprint for the first 100 days of work, some key proposals are under consideration,” the official said.
The official highlighted that HIMS has been a persistent requirement of the Delhi government. “This system is a fundamental requirement for hospital management, and its implementation will significantly improve healthcare services,” he said.
HIMS, a complimentary web-based Monitoring Information System initiated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in October 2008, serves as a government-to-government platform to monitor and prevent corruption. Despite its aim to support policy formation and programme interventions, the AAP government did not approve it.
The Clinical Establishments Act of 2010, implemented by the central government, requires all clinical facilities nationwide to register and adhere to minimum standards for facilities and services.
During the initial session of the eighth Assembly, the newly constituted Delhi Cabinet endorsed the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat health insurance programme in the capital.
The AAP government established Mohalla Clinics in October 2015 to offer accessible primary healthcare services to local residents.
The chief minister and Council of Ministers took their oaths on Thursday afternoon at Ramlila Maidan, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other distinguished guests in attendance.
Post the inauguration ceremony, the chief minister conducted the first Cabinet meeting in the evening, sanctioning two primary agenda items.
