5 labourers dead as tipper truck unloads sand on shed at construction site in Maharashtra | Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar News – The Times of India


NEW DELHI: Five labourers, among them a minor, were killed when a tipper truck unloaded sand on their temporary shed at a construction site on Saturday, police said.
The incident took place during the early morning at a bridge construction site in Pasodi-Chandol, Jafrabad tehsil, as confirmed by an official.
The official stated that while the workers were asleep in a temporary shelter at the location, a tipper lorry loaded with sand arrived.
The driver, unaware of people sleeping beneath, emptied the sand onto the shelter, trapping them underneath.
Local sources indicated that the shelter gave way under the sand’s weight, following which the lorry driver abandoned the scene.
A female child and a woman were successfully extracted from the rubble, according to the official.
The authorities have initiated legal proceedings and are actively searching for the absconding driver.
The casualties included Ganesh Dhanwai (60) and his son Bhushan Dhanwai (16), both from Golegaon in Sillod tehsil, along with Sunil Sapkal (20), who resided in Padmavati, Jafrabad tehsil.
The official mentioned that they were still working to establish the identities of two other victims.
