Developers of Splitgate 2, 1047 Games, have officially announced the game’s release to be in 2025 and just launched the game on PC and next-gen consoles for its first open alpha test. Players can now download the game for free on Steam, PS5, or Xbox Series S|X console for a limited time only from February 27 until March 2, 2025. Splitgate 2 is a follow-up to the beloved fast-paced hero shooter Splitgate 1 which was discontinued two years ago due to technical issues in maintaining the game.

What is SplitGate 2?
Splitgate 2 is a fast-paced, free-to-play PvP hero shooter with a focus on portals and teleportations. The game is highly competitive featuring multi-team combat and several game modes. Splitgate 2 can be thought of as an evolution of Halo or Unreal Tournament, but with portals and massive arenas.There are three factions in the game, each with their unique abilities and eight very unique customizable weapons and power weapons to pick up.
What are the different game modes for Splitgate 2?
Splitgate 2 has three game modes in the open alpha test. They are as follows:
1). MULTI-TEAM HOTZONE
“Capture zones to win!”
Multi-Team Hotzone is a zone capture game mode, with 24 players in a lobby divided into three teams of eight players each. There are valuable drops across the maps and the intensity of fights rises as all the teams converge on the objective.
2). FIRECRACKER
“On offense, plant and detonate the firecracker at the enemy base. On defense, defend and defuse.”
Firecracker is a traditional Counter-Strike style 4v4 round-based bomb planting and defusing game mode. As the defending team, you hold the site from plants and defuse the firecracker in time, incase of a successful plant. As the attacking team, you try to take control of a site and plant and detonate the firecracker.
3). SPLITBALL
“Grab the splitballs, bring it to your base.”
Splitball is 1047 Game’s take on classic arena style game mode like capture the flag. This is also a 4v4 round-based, best of three game mode where teams need to acquire a ball and bring it back to their base while fighting the enemy team off. These splitballs can be intercepted by the enemy team, creating interesting gameplays.
What are the different factions in Splitgate 2?
1). Aeros
“Fast and agile, Aeros Aces use their master portal skills to control any arena.”
Abilities:
- Rush (Q) – Movement and reload speed boost.
- Taskmaster (Passive) – Faster ability cooldown for you and your teammates.
2). Meridian
“Meridian Aces support their teams with healing technology, energy-based weaponry, and even the power to manipulate time.”
Abilities:
- Hypersight (Q) – Briefly reveals enemies and their portals through walls for you and your teammates.
- Wellness (Passive) – Regenerate health faster for you and your teammates.
3) Sabrask
“To honor their Martian homeland, Sabrask Aces defend their teams with strength and explosive force.”
Abilities:
- Smart Wall (Q) – Transparent barrier wall that you can shoot through but enemy team cannot.
- Fortitude (Passive) – Equipment recharges faster for you and your teammates.
How to play Splitgate 2 open alpha test?
Splitgate 2 is free-to-play and currently available for download on Steam, Playstation 5, and Xbox. Being in its open alpha test, it is available for a limited time only over the weekend from February 27, 2025 until March 2, 2025.
