AGRA: A 30-year-old executive of an IT major in Mumbai took his life over strained relations with his wife, recording an agonised video before the final act.
Manav Sharma was found hanging in his native home in Agra, police said on Friday, adding that they came to know of it from the widely circulated video on social media.
Moments before ending his life, Sharma purportedly recorded the emotional video — about seven minutes long — accusing his wife of “having an affair”. In the clip, he could be heard apologising to his parents and then pleading for more awareness of men’s struggles: “Please, someone should talk about men. They become very lonely. If laws do not protect men, then there will be no man left to be accused…”
With a noose around his neck, Sharma said, “This is for the authorities. The law needs to protect men…My wife was involved with another man…But what can I do? It does not matter anymore.”

After a pause, he says: “I don’t have a problem with dying. I want to go. Please think about men. I’m sorry, everyone…Everything will get better once I go. I have attempted suicide even before.”
DCP (Agra city), Suraj Rai, said, “The man died by suicide on Feb 24. We came to know about the incident from a video clip on social media. A case was registered under BNS section 108 (abetment of suicide) at Sadar police station in Agra following a complaint by his father, Narendra Sharma, against the daughter-in-law and her family on Friday. We’re probing the matter from all possible angles, and further action will be taken based on evidence.”
Both Sharma and his wife, who works in a leading IT firm, were living in Mumbai. They got married on Jan 30, 2024. In his police complaint, Sharma’s father, an IAF veteran, stated: “After the first few days of the wedding, the woman (Manav’s wife) started making false accusations and expressed interest in living with her ‘boyfriend’. On Feb 23, 2025, Manav and his wife returned from Mumbai. Later, when he dropped her off at her maternal home, he was threatened by her family. The next morning, he took his own life.”
Denying all the allegations, Sharma’s wife said her husband had been struggling with alcohol addiction and had tried to harm himself before as well. “It was my past, before the marriage (the alleged affair)… Manav used to drink excessively and tried to kill himself earlier too. I saved him thrice. I’d informed my in-laws, but they ignored my pleas,” she can be heard saying in a “video statement” of her own following her husband’s death.
Earlier last year, 34-year-old techie Atul Subash from UP also died by suicide at his Bengaluru residence, leaving behind a 24-page note and a long video.
