NEW DELHI: Aam Admi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal issued a stern warning on Sunday against drug dealers, saying that Punjab would be completely freed from the drug menace.
“Our government has launched a great war against drugs in Punjab. Drugs have ruined a large number of our youth and children. Those who sell drugs will not be spared. Drugs will be eradicated from Punjab forever,” Kejriwal posted on X.
The Punjab police, alongside the administration, intensified their anti-drug operations by demolishing two unlawful properties belonging to suspected drug peddlers in Khanpur village, Phillaur Tehsil of Jalandhar district.
DSP Sarwan Singh of Phillaur confirmed that drug peddlers had encroached upon land in two villages. He reported the demolition of notorious drug smuggler Jasvir Sheera’s house in Khanpur village, along with similar action against an illegal property owned by a female drug supplier in another village.
“Drug suppliers have encroached in two villages. A drug supplier identified as Jasvir Sheera had built a house here; it has been demolished. In another village, a woman drug peddler had built a house, and we are demolishing that as well. This is a clear message from the police. If anybody has built any properties or anything with drug money or illegal money, we will take action,” DSP Singh told ANI.
Earlier on February 24, authorities demolished illegal construction linked to drug smuggler Sonu from Talwandi village.
According to AAP, Sonu had been involved in drug-related activities for three years, facing multiple criminal charges with six FIRs registered against him. The party’s PRO confirmed authorities’ commitment to dismantling drug operations and safeguarding community welfare.
The Punjab government announced comprehensive measures against drug abuse, directing enforcement agencies to launch extensive operations.
District administrators received instructions to ensure sufficient rehabilitation and de-addiction facilities.
“The Punjab Government has decided to launch a massive war against drugs in the coming weeks through Law Enforcement Agencies. This could cause distress among habitual users of drugs. To slowly wean them away from drugs, all DCs are hereby directed to ensure an adequate number of rehab and Drug De-addiction centres equipped with the necessary equipment and medicines, including Buprenorphine medicine, testing kits, required staff, etc.”
A senior IAS officer was tasked with inspecting all centres to assess their preparedness.
