NEW DELHI: Team India’s Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final clash against Australia saw a dramatic moment when Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma lost their cool at Kuldeep Yadav over a bizarre fielding mishap.
The incident occurred during Australia’s innings when Steve Smith guided the ball towards deep mid-wicket.
Kohli quickly collected the ball and fired a throw towards Kuldeep Yadav, expecting him to receive it cleanly.
However, to everyone’s surprise, Kuldeep awkwardly dodged the ball, letting it go past him. Rohit Sharma, positioned nearby, picked up the ball but was visibly frustrated with Kuldeep’s misjudgment.
Kohli, known for his aggressive on-field demeanor, was visibly upset and appeared to lash out at the spinner, while Rohit also expressed his disappointment.
Watch:
Despite the heated moment, India’s bowlers kept their discipline to restrict Australia to 264 all out.
Skipper Steve Smith played a crucial knock of 73 off 96 balls, anchoring the innings with valuable partnerships — 52 runs with Travis Head, 56 with Marnus Labuschagne, and 54 with Alex Carey.
Carey played a vital innings of 61 off 57 balls, ensuring Australia reached a competitive total. However, India struck at key moments, breaking partnerships just as they started to build.
Mohammed Shami, the pick of the bowlers, dismissed Smith with a full toss, while Glenn Maxwell failed to capitalise on a good start, losing his stumps to Axar Patel.
A late flourish from Carey and Ben Dwarshuis (19 off 29) helped Australia cross 250, but Shreyas Iyer’s brilliant direct hit ran out Carey, stopping Australia from reaching a 300-plus total.
With 265 to chase, India will back themselves, but Australia’s disciplined bowling attack ensures the game remains finely poised.
