Melania Trump watched from the gallery, joined by other congressmen. Trump’s key ally Elon Musk was also present, wearing a blue tie.
The guests also included the widow of a fallen NYPD officer, a victim of explicit deepfake images, and a teacher recently freed from detention in Russia. Democrats, in contrast, invited federal workers affected by Trump’s budget cuts and government watchdogs dismissed under his administration.
The address also saw protests across the country, with demonstrators gathering in all 50 states to oppose Trump’s policies. While their grievances ranged from economic concerns to his handling of foreign affairs, the widespread opposition underscored the deeply polarising nature of his presidency.
